Don’t bypass truth

The Dec. 27 article  on area road building repeats the claim by Pender Commissioners Williams and Piepmeyer that the Hampstead bypass funding was hindered by the community group C4HB (C4HB.com).

Our group has met personally with the DOT Secretary, the Director of Engineering and the Planning Branch Engineers. We asked very specifically about the Pender Commissioners’ claim.

The DOT officials were emphatic that they conducted the cost/benefit analysis with true objectivity and they strongly resent anyone claiming that they acted with less than complete integrity. The planners also stated they had never heard of C4HB when the rankings were done.

So, let us settle this once and for all. I will personally donate $1,000 to the charity of the commissioners’ choice if they can name a single DOT employee who will back up their longstanding claim that conflict or politics influenced this funding decision. They owe that to the 1,500 C4HB petitioners. That, or an apology.
